Please Excuse The Mess

Please excuse the mess around this part of town. I am in the process of putting the new design online so a lot of links will be broken for the next few hours. Everything should be back to normal soon but please bear with me while I “play” around.

I love what I see so far…love seeing the orange, again. I love the columns on the right, especially the tones of the “Asides”, and the fact that all that news/info is separate from your actual blog content…good use of the column for the links. Love the new tones, the varied blues, also, and like the overall effects and affect.

Bravo!!

Nice to see Anthony in the header, again.

Sorry, I notice something new each time, love the orange highlight around “jarkolicious”.

Indeed, Anthony is back in the header again, along with an orange highlight around “jarkolicious.”

Also added support for “gravatars” in comments. So if you click the default one next to your name it will take you to a page where you can signup for a free account, which you can use to host your avatar.

I love green and blue together.

…this should be interesting to see on the 800×600 resolution on IE at work, though. Is this design of a fluid nature? *too lazy to look for herself*

Also, with the Gravatars, have you seen this WP plugin? I haven’t installed it on my site yet, but it looks like a nice little implementation of things. You might also consider Subscribe to Comments; I love using this thing and seeing it on other sites.

Can you tell that I’m a WP whore? :D

Thanks for the kind words on the colors. :D Does the orange stand out too much?

I dont think this will look that good on 800×600 as its a fixed-width design, with 970px set as the width of the site. Unfortunate but I am fairly certain that _most_ folks have at least 1024×768 these days. Well, in my experience anyhow. :P

Good deal on both them plug-ins. I shall check in to getting them implemented tomorrow as they seem like they are good additions to the site.

Also have to get the top navigation implemented as well getting the Flickr Gallery plug-in working again.

WP wh0ring is da bomb cause WP 0wns!

Have you thought of a more yellow-based orange that’s maybe toned down a bit more? Like… #AF8300 maybe?

hahaha, nothing looks good on our work computers. They’re running Windows 98, IE6, and on monitors that view what looks to be 256 colors at best (though the settings say only 16). XD I come home to my much better computer, and it feels so weird to see the differences.

WP does 0wn. Like sliced bread and Irish cream.

This looks great! Though I do admit I’m not keen on the thick column/thin column/thin column thing, but that’s just a matter f personal preferance. ^_^;

The colours you’ve chosen are perfect. :)

This is most def. an interesting new layout you’ve got happening here Scott, and it’s nice to see some Orange in it. ;)

I think mayhaps the middle column may be a slight bit too obstructive at this point.. but, I’m guessing it’ll be easier after getting “used” to it after seeing the old layout for so long. That said.. the colours. Oh, the colours. An interesting selection, but they do the job they were intended to do well :) Can’t wait to see it when it’s done!

Also, just as a sidenote.. I’ve updated my URL too. I’m at http://newklear.org now, rather than newklear.sennen-silence.com. Just thought I’d let you know so you don’t have a dead link in your sidebar. ;)

Have a good one, mate :)

The sidebars are interesting, because they are internally monochromatic, but then they also compliment each other. I’m liking it.

Looks good, jark. I think you just about get away with the orange. I don’t think the header works well, though - it’s the text style more than the image itself. The way everything is neatly laid out at the side is particularly nice.

12 Scott Aug 28th, 2005, at 11:00:24

Thanks Richard. Any ideas what might improve the header?

13 Richard Dunlop-Walters Aug 28th, 2005, at 12:26:09

I don’t know really. The rest of the site, as far as color is concerned, is quite solidly defined - you have the white block, the green block, the blue block, then the header kind of breaks the flow, I think - maybe a more orange picture, or more emphasis on orange in the text - maybe swap black type with orange border with orange type and black border?

Just my 2 cents, anyway. Whatever you do with it, if anything, it looks great. I’m just nipicking. :)

No worries, I know what ya mean. I, too, feel that the header looks somehow out of place. Not sure how to fix0r that though.

I shall play around and see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Scott…an orange border in the header, instead of blue…it will also enhance the bit orange tone in the water (there is an orange tinge in there)…and then the text will look good bordered in the orange…as it will have an orange companion to compliment it…and not look odd and standing orangely alone.

Very nice new design… love the two-toned sidebars. And the news feed… I gotta get me one of those. :p

Scott…like the white around the header, the orange around the WHITE text, and the orange panel and white text for the links, and at the bottom..this looks sharp…good changes!!
